HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
School Start First Impressions Marlborough is dedicated to making the school transition successful for Marlborough’s at-risk 5-year-olds.
We achieve this on two fronts.
First, the child is celebrated on their 5th birthday to demonstrate how important they are to their family, their school, and our community.
Second, the child is equipped with a uniform, lunchbox, school donation, books, pencils, and other essential school start supplies.
We provide a 5 Kitbox to children turning 5 whose families are experiencing significant financial hardship. The kit contains everything a child needs to celebrate their 5th birthday and commence school.
Each 5 Kitbox is customised to best provide for the child and the school they are attending and contains:
- Specific School Needs: A school uniform or essential school clothing, a school hat, required school donation/fees, required stationery, swimming gear, and sunscreen.
- Additional Clothing: Correctly sized shoes plus socks, underwear, a shower proof parka, mufti clothing for non-uniform schools, knitted slippers, and a thermal top.
- Additional School Needs: A school bag, a lunchbox and drink bottle, pencil case (with pencils, eraser sharpener etc), coloured pencils, and felt pens or crayons.
- Other Learning Activities: A reading and activity book, a family game, and an outdoor activity.
- Celebration Items: A gift, a personalised birthday cake, party supplies, and a gift for their sibling/s.
- Personal Essentials: Toothpaste, toothbrush, and a toiletry bag.
It is our practice to support the confidentiality of every child and we operate exclusively through approved referral agencies who have direct contact with each child.
We trust these organisations to advise us on who is eligible for a 5 Kitbox.
Education is the pathway out of poverty.
Referrer agency submits referral
SSFI Marlborough liaise with the school, confirm enrolment, and purchase school supplies
SSFI Marlborough purchase the birthday supplies and prepare the birthday cake
SSFI Marlborough completes 5 KitBox
SSFI Marlborough delivers 5 KitBox to the referrer agency address on delivery day
Referrer agency delivers 5 KitBox to the child and their family at their home
